Where Do Granite Slabs for Granite Countertops Come From?

The great forces involved in creating the unique colour combinations and striations in granite countertops is complex and intricate. In its raw form, exotic and classic granite slabs wait to be shipped to fabricators after being extruded from the earth. That is where it will be honed into the beautiful granite countertops and islands that we have all come to love and enjoy.

A vast majority of the world’s granite supply is exported from Brazil. The quality of the marble onyx from Italy is simply incredible. It takes about 30 days altogether for the stone to go from where it laid for centuries, to the doorstep of the wholesaler.

It can take up to 48 hours to slice a huge block into the individual slabs required by wholesalers, and then takes up another two days to apply the resin and cure it in the oven. The remainder of the time is spent getting the slabs to the marketplace.
